Over the years, we have also developed many programs to meet the needs of our community and we are very proud of the innovation that 2009 brought to the entire central Alberta region via videoconference. The Edmonton Community Legal Centre is one of seven legal clinics in Alberta available for legal assistance. Our tenant support program began in 2010 and is another innovation that leverages the capabilities of a Para Legal to help clients with landlord issues. We learned about Calgary Legal Guidance`s photo identification program and worked hard to bring this service to central Alberta in 2009. We do not help with criminal law problems. In 2013, the clinic answered the call to help people in family law matters and launched the Family Lawyer Project in provincial and Queen`s Bench courts. We managed this program for 3 years until it was handed over to the Legal Aid Directorate in December 2015. Legal advice and support for immigrants and refugees seeking help in a variety of immigration matters (with the exception of citizenship). Legal advice and support for people seeking access to government social programs The Community Legal Clinic began as a pro bono committee of the Central Alberta Bar Society as part of a centennial project. In 2004, we were granted non-profit status and service delivery began in January 2005. Membership in the Central Alberta Bar Society remains a strong supporter of the clinic to this day.
