The first step is to submit a Form DD 1840R (pink form) within 70 days of the delivery date. For full replacement value claims, Form DD 1840R must be filed directly with the carrier, but Fairchild`s legal office can assist you in this process. For shipments with a full replacement value, you have nine months from the DELIVERY DATE to submit an HHG claim to the carrier. For other types of relocation claims, you have two years from the DELIVERY DATE to file an HHG claim for the depreciation value. Failure to file Form DD 1840R within the required 70 calendar days may result in the loss of the ability to recover the full amount of a claim filed later.
